A 17th Century centre of fashion and power.

In fact the house was shut when I visited, but the gardens were significant, consisting of 8 huge lawns that represent wealth & control as they had to be cut by scythe, by hand.

Also an area known as a wilderness, which was less formal and designed for contemplation. A wonderful collection of flowers, foliage and shrubs.

Reception rooms were situated on 1st floor, so guests could view the garden from above and be impressed
