Reece Mews, Kensington

Reece & Kendrick Mews near South Kensington tube station is up there as one of my top all time best Mews in London. Not the prettiest (not too shabby either!) but so much to see there.

First off there is the ski lift mural by Johny Midnight, well known in the Alps for his ski art. It was a commission for ski holiday and property company which is based in the mews and to the right, he added a portrait of the figurative painter Francis Bacon in homage to the artist himself.

Despite his considerable success, with his paintings selling for millions even during his lifetime, Bacon preferred to live and work in the relatively cramped conditions at number 7 for over 30 years until his death in 1992 and it was here that he created the iconic masterpieces which made him one of the most acclaimed artists of the last century.

For years the council wanted it removed but after the portrait was featured in a programme about Bacon, it seems they have relented so there he stands, a rather good likeness I think.

And at either corner of both mews is the classiest car dealership that I know of. Sports Classics has been here for over 50 years I believe and every time I pass by (which is pretty often), they have an ever changing window display of eye-watering classic Aston Martins, Ferraris, Porsches, Bentleys, Jaguars, Masaretis and others. Take a walk over and you'll see what I mean.

Good to dream.....
